Woodhouse-Nareeb War Memorial - Physical Description 1
Avenue of honour to commemorate the Second World War. The monument also comprises two stone plaques. The plaques list servicemen and women of the war of 1939-45. On the cairn of stone on the left, special mention is made of the nursing sisters who lost their lives in the Java Sea and on Banka Island in 1942. The classic elegy "Lest we Forget" links this memorial, which has little of the classic symbolism, to the broad tradition of commemoration of war dead.
