Statement of Significance
The Kooreh Memorial Hall off the St. Arnaud Bendigo Road, Kooreh, has significance as an important commemorative icon in Kooreh to the fallen soldiers in the Boer and First World Wars. The building also has significance as an intact example of an interwar hall. Built in 1923, the hall has served the Kooreh community for a variety of purposes throughout the 20th century. The Kooreh Memorial Hall is architecturally significant at a LOCAL level. It demonstrates original design qualities for an interwar hall building. These qualities include the broad gable roof form, together with the minor open gabled porte cochere at the front. Other intact or appropriate qualities include the stuccoed concrete wall construction, galvanised corrugated iron roof cladding, four galvanised ventilation stacks, wide eaves, tablets with the names inscribed of the fallen soldiers in the Boer War and the First World War along the longitudinal walls, timber framed windows with highlights, double three panelled timber entrance doors, stuccoed concrete porte cochere columns and solid balustrade, stuccoed concrete buttresses, decorative timber fretwork and flagpole in the main flying gable end, timber bargeboards and the timber gable infill in the porte cochere. Internally, the spatial layout of the main hall with two rear ante-rooms, hall stage and the smooth finished concrete walls also contribute to the significance of the place.
The Kooreh Memorial Hall is historically and socially significant at a LOCAL level. It is associated with the development of Kooreh in the early 20th century, and commemorates the fallen soldiers in the Boer and First World Wars. Built in 1923, the hall has served the community for a variety of purposes throughout the 20th century. It is therefore recognised and valued by the Kooreh community for cultural, commemorative and recreational reasons.
Overall, the Kooreh Memorial Hall is of LOCAL significance.

Kooreh Memorial Hall - Physical Description 1
The Kooreh Memorial Hall off St. Arnaud Bendigo Road, Kooreh, has a rural setting comprising open gravelled and grassed surrounds and a nearby row of eucalypts. The stuccoed concrete, interwar hall building is characterised by a broad gable roof form, together with a minor open gabled porte cochere at the front. These roof forms are clad in galvanised corrugated iron. Four galvanised ventilation stacks adorn the roofline. Wide overhangs are features of the eaves.
Along the base of the longitudinal walls of the building are early tablets with names inscribed of the fallen soldiers in the Boer War (1901 - 1903) and the First World War (1914-1919). Other early features of the design include the timber framed windows with highlights, double three panelled timber entrance doors, stuccoed concrete porte cochere columns and solid balustrade, stuccoed concrete buttresses, decorative timber fretwork and flagpole in the main flying gable end, timber bargeboards and the timber gable infill in the porte cochere. The interior of the building consists of a main hall area and two ante-rooms at the rear. There is a stage in the main hall area, and the wall are finished in smooth render.

The Kooreh Memorial Hall off the St. Arnaud Bendigo Road, is an important icon in Kooreh commemorating fallen soldiers of the Boer War and First World War. Jessie Cameron writing for the St. Arnaud Mercury described the opening of the Hall in 1923:
"The dedication of the Soldiers Memorial Hall to the memory of fallen soldiers took placed on Wednesday 28 March 1923.The marble tablet on which is inscribed the names of District Soldiers who fell in the recent and S. African wars was unveiled by Mrs. T. Proctor. The Last Post was sounded by Mr. W. Summerfield. The hall is substantial, an imposing structure of concrete, being 66 ft x 25 ft and 13 ft walls. A roomy stage and two handy ante-rooms. On the west wall a neat tablet on which is inscribed the names of the following soldiers, who made the supreme sacrifice. Pte. W. Smith; Sergeant P.E. Rowe; Pte. J.G. Wright and Pte. J. McNally / Sth. African War."
The stuccoed concrete, interwar hall building is characterised by a broad gable roof form, together with a minor open gabled porte cochere at the front. Since its opening, the hall has served the Kooreh community for a variety of cultural, commemorative and recreational purposes.
