Yarra Junction War Memorial - Veterans Description for Public
The Yarra Junction War Memorial, on the Warburton highway, is a statuary, stone monument of an Anzac soldier on a plinth surrounded by a chain and post fence. The memorial was erected circa 1921-22 after theYarra Junction Progress Society commissioned the work and organised for the money to be raised by public subscription, with fundraising activities such as concerts. The local council also contributed funds. It was estimated by the Yarra Progress Society in 1920 that the memorial would cost around 500 pounds. The memorial commemorates the local community's involvement in the First World War. A wall was added behind the statue to commemorate the community's ongoing remembrance of those who have fought and died in the later wars: the Second World War, Korea, Malaya, Borneo and Vietnam.
