STUBB'S LADIES BATHS - History
These baths were built around the same time as Kerferd Pier, with the Emerald Hill Baths being completed first, and baths added in 1890 opposite Armstrong St. These were still present in 1910. The complex appears to have been run by Messr Stubb's in 1891. The two eastern most bath complexes were still extant in the 1920?s, and all but the eastern structure had disappeared by 1923. It is unclear when the final baths complex was removed. This area functioned as a seaside resort around this time, and was serviced by trams via Victoria Avenue to the city. Many hotels serviced the tourist trade, including the Victoria Hotel, the grandest establishment on the strip. This single enclosure located between Phillipson and Bleakhouse Lane, was approximately 500 ft from shore, and was diagonal to the shoreline. This complex was named as Stubb's Ladies Baths in an 1891 plan. Stubb's Ladies Baths. These baths were the last of the complex to be removed.STUBB'S LADIES BATHS - Interpretation of Site
No evidence of this structure was located, but a knuckle in the seawall did correspond to the former access way shown in the geo-referenced Cox plan.
