FERMANER'S COTTAGE, TARRAVILLE - History
The allotment was originally part of Reeve's Special Survey (granted 1841, surveyed 1843). Little documentary evidence on the early period is currently known, but Port Albert pilot David Fermaner is believed to have owned the property in the 1840's/1850's. Butler's Woods Point and Gippsland Directory of 1866 seems to list a 'T. Tucker, contractor on the site'. The Loughnan Street area appears to have been in irreversible decline by the late 1870's.FERMANER'S COTTAGE, TARRAVILLE - Interpretation of Site
The location of the bricks corresponds with the special survey allotment associated with David Fermaner. The bricks are hand-made, and are probably the remains of a chimney.
