Veterans Description for Public
Coburg Memorial Garden - Veterans Description for Public
The Coburg Memorial Garden was planted by school children in May 1991 in memory of all those who lost their lives in war. The garden replaces the 'Soldier's Avenue of Trees', which used to be in the school ground and was planted in memory of former pupils who died fighting in the First World War. The garden features a plaque listing the names of those former students who never returned home.
The original memorial avenues of trees were planted on Saturday 30 August 1919 by relatives and friends of the soldiers from Coburg who were killed in the First World War. Originally, each tree honoured an individual soldier. The remaining trees collectively commemorate all those who made the supreme sacrifice and the ninety-one Coburg names on the memorial. It was unveiled 29 April 1990.
