Great Western Memorial Obelisk - Veterans Description for Public
The Great Western Memorial Obelisk, located inside the Great Western Memorial Park, is centrally positioned amongst the war memorials behind the memorial gates. The obelisk commemorates 44 fallen and returned soldiers who fought in the First World War. There is also a dedication to John Thomlinson and Henry Best Jnr who fought in the Boer War. Originally erected by George Grey of Stawell in April 1924, outside the Mechanics Institute, the memorial was relocated to the park in 1956.
