Wandin War Memorial Pillar - Veterans Description for Public
The Wandin War Memorial Pillar, on the corner of Beenak and Hunter Roads, was unveiled on 4th June 1921. A plaque records that the memorial is " A tribute from the people of Wandin to the memory of those men who were killed in the Great War 1914-19". The lower section was rededicated to those who served in the Second World War. Another plaque also specifically acknowledges the service of women during the Second World War.
The memorial comprises of a tall black pillar, topped with an urn and on mounted on a white marble base. It is enclosed by a low cyclone wire fence, with a flagpole alongside. Two small Italian cypresses mark the entry which is through a wrought iron gate. Several roses have been planted along the fence.
