Lancefield WWII Memorial Communion Rail - Veterans Description for Public
The Lancefield WWII Memorial Communion Rail is dedicated to the memory of Pte. Thomas W. Hall, the eldest son of Mr. and Mrs. Geo Hall. Thomas was part of the 2/29 Battalion and was killed in action on 19th January 1942 in Malaya. The Rail was originally part of the Methodist Church where it was unveiled on 17th March 1949 by Reverend J.J. Benjamin, a chaplain with the 8th Division and a former prisoner of war in Malaya. At the ceremony, Reverend Benjamin read a letter from Thomas' Commanding Officer who commended the soldier's bravery and devotion to duty. The Rail is still intact but the Church has since become a private residence, while the brass plate with the dedication has been moved to the foyer of the Lancefield Uniting Church.
