RAAF Memorial (Mildura Airport) - Veterans Description for Public
At this site stands a memorial statue and a series of memorials shaped like propellers. The statue acknowledges the service of all Australian airmen and women. The statue was inspired by Jack Mayall (RAAF) shot down in his Hurricane over Malta and killed. The memorial propellers commemorate:
1. The 60 district men who did not return.
2. The 52 pilots and several ground crewkilled in training at the No. 2 Operational Training Unit in Mildura.
3. The 328 men who trained at Mildura (and one woman) who subsequently lost their lives in conflicts around the world.
Near these memorials is the old No. 2 Operational Training Unit Headquarters. Inside this building are a number of smaller commemorative plaques which name individually airmen who died in training accidents.
