Statement of Significance
This river valley runs north-east to south-west between lines of sandstone/mudstone hills which reach 300 ft. on the north-west and 600 ft. on the south-east. The river meanders through the rich flats in the valley bottom where land use is good, and rich pastures are largely used for dairying.
The hills to the north-west are generally tree covered and provide a pleasing contrast with the pastures on the south-eastern hills which, for the most part, are barred of trees. From these gently rolling slopes, fine views of the area can be seen.
The railway passes down the length of the valley and tends to enhance the atmosphere of serene rural activity.
The township of Glen Forbes is situated in a tributary of Bass River a short distance from the junction of the two streams. This small township and environs provides an interesting highlight within the Bass River valley system.
LOCATION:
The alluvial plain of the Bass River from Poowong to Glen Forbes, and the valley walls on either side.
