Memorial Window Description & History
Stained Glass Window at Crib Point HMAS Cerberus Flinders Naval Depot Anglican Chapel - Memorial Window Description & History
During 1925, the Reverend Hudson ordered a series of windows from Brooks, Robinson & Co., Melbourne, which were to be installed in Drill Hall that also served as the Naval Chapel at Flinders Naval Depot. Hudson placed his order for The Last Supper on 25 August 1926, the final of five windows ordered in 1925-26.
The three-light was horizontal in format, a window opening that was very appropriate for the subject. The design was based ona print of Leonardo da Vinci's fresco of the same name, and adapted for stained glass by John William Brown (1842-1928), Brooks, Robinson & Co. artist for a few short years 1891-1893. For this commission the earlier version by Brown was 'touched up' by the firm's stained glass artist, William Kerr-Morgan (1896-1967), and new ornament added.
