In grateful memory of the fallen brave who were associated with the Methodist Church in the Kyabram Circuit. Counting not their lives dear to them, they laid them down in sacred cause of liberty. They died not in vain and they live again. Lest We Forget.
Memorial Window Description & History
Stained Glass Window at Kyabram Wesley Evangelical Methodist [now Uniting] Church - Memorial Window Description & History
In 1928, the new Methodist Church in Kyabram was opened by the Rev. WJ Williams of Shepparton, chairman of the Goulburn Valley Methodist District. Eight memorial windows were unveiled, all, according to the Argus, tributes to men who lost their lives in the Great War, but in fact only two of the windows were soldier memorials. The building was expected to cost £4000, three-quarters of which was already in hand or promised at the time the building opened. William 'Jock' Frater, stained glass artist at E.L. Yencken & Co. in Melbourne, was responsible for designing many war commemorative windows after the First World War, including this one. The Ascension of Christ was also selected as the subject for a major memorial at Christ Church Anglican, North Essendon.
The names of the men from the congregation who enlisted 1914-1918 were recorded on a beautifully hand carved timber Honour Roll, listed beneath a sprayof wattle and a branch of eucalyptus.'The strengthen and the flower of Australia' was carved below the list of names.
