TRUGANINA ESTATE WELL - History
Unknown- likely to be associated with H7822_0136. Land first purchased by Elliott Armstrong according to 1857 parish map. John Robertson purchased the property to the south and built the bluestone house in that allotment by 1875, and later purchased surrounding allotments to expand the Truganina Stud Farm (Hislop and McAlister 2017).
TRUGANINA ESTATE WELL - Historical Significance
The Truganina Estate Well is associated with the mid-late nineteenth century growth of Tarneit. This site is likely related to the Truganina Estate. The site presents an opportunity to reveal further information of the early settlement of Tarneit on a local historic level.
TRUGANINA ESTATE WELL - Archaeological Significance
Limited documentary evidence suggests that the site was first purchased by Elliott Armstrong, shown on an 1857 parish map. The site comprises a bluestone well immediately west of Skeleton Creek in the far northeastern corner of 860 Derrimut Road, Tarneit. It has an internal diameter of approximately 1.5 metres, with an estimated depth of 10 metres. The upper section of the well is made of irregular bluestone blocks which has been excavated down through the bedrock. It is considered likely that the site is associated with Truganina Estate (H7822?]0136) to the southwest. The site has the potential to contain archaeological features, deposits and artefacts that could provide insights into the wider Truganina Estate area.

TRUGANINA ESTATE WELL - Heritage Inventory Description
Site comprises a bluestone well immediately west of Skeleton Creek in the far northeastern corner of 860 Derrimut Road, Tarneit. It has an internal diameter of approximately 1.5m and externally is probably 2m or so, and is estimated to be at least 10m deep. The top part of the well is made of irregular bluestone blocks and then it has been excavated down through the bedrock.
It is considered likely that the site is associated with Truganina Estate (H7822-0136) to the southwest.
