FORMER TOOLAMBA RAILWAY STATION - History
The Toolamba Railway Station, Londregan Lane, was built in 1880 to serve the western Goulburn Valley drawing the focus of the town to the west of the original settlement. This was also the junction point for the Toolamba – Echuca Railway which also opened in 1880. The large grain shed at Toolamba Station served as a distribution point for agricultural supplies (Victorian Places 2018). A new signal box was constructed in 1916 and by 1942 separate sidings were provided for the ash pit, coal stage, grain shed and goods platform. A turntable was operated at the station for a time, but was out of use by July 1969. The station was an important transport hub up to the 1950s, with a large staff, signal box, a coal stage and numerous sidings and servicing tracks, goods sheds, and, at one stage, refreshment rooms. However the advent of diesel-electric locomotives during the 1950s and 1960s, reduced Toolamba’s importance as a refuelling and watering point.
In 1981 the Echuca line was closed, and the Stationmaster was removed on 4 October 1982 and in 1986 the signal box and interlocking were abolished, followed by the closure of the Toolamba Station on 20 December 1987 and the removal of all buildings and infrastructure (Heritage Concepts 2013).FORMER TOOLAMBA RAILWAY STATION - Interpretation of Site
Toolamba Station is readily identified by the remaining surface features including the concrete slaps and bitumen paving from the station buildings and platform, and the still standing iron water tank. The Platform edge has been removed to allow through trains, and points for the branch line to the north of the station have been modernised. The locations of the former Departmental Residences can be discerned on aerial photographs, with at building still present. The station yard formerly had six roads (tracks and sidings) between the passenger and goods platforms, a signal box at the north end of the passenger platform and locomotive turntable and engine shed to the south east.

FORMER TOOLAMBA RAILWAY STATION - Heritage Inventory Description
The Toolamba Station Grounds extend both sides of the railway south of Wren Street. The passenger platform and main station buildings were on the west side, where there is a surviving Departmental Residence now in private ownership. On the east side was the goods shed and platform and several sidings. A surviving iron water tower is located at the south end of the station yard. There are likely to be other buried foundations from the former station building, outbuildings and signal and points installations. The Junction Hotel Toolamba (HO125) is located on the north side of Wren Street and is not impacted by any works associated with SCU3.
