Statement of Significance
What is significant?
The battery site with its large stone mounting bed/boiler setting, site of mortar blocks, battery sand heap, tramway cutting, water race and pond.
How is it significant?
The site is significant because it is associated with Victoria's 19th-century gold mining industry. This industry was driving force in the economic and social development of Victoria.
Why is it significant?
The battery site is representative of a small scale operation. The site is an early one and is well preserved.

TRY AGAIN COMPANY'S BATTERY SITE - History
The Try Again Company was formed in 1873. A 10-head battery with engine and steam boiler was purchased in Feb 1874. Mining involved excavating a cutting and sinking a shaft. A tunnel (most likely for haulage purposes) was driven to intersect with the shaft. Water for the battery and steam boiler was supplied by a short water race and the ore conveyed to the battery along a tramway.TRY AGAIN COMPANY'S BATTERY SITE - Interpretation of Site
Battery site that was operated by a mining company in the mid 1870s. Possibly was used as a public crushing works for some time after the mine closed.
