Statement of Significance
What is significant?
The site contains the burials of the ‘pioneers of Campbell’s Rush’. It is unknown how many burials may be within the site as the burial ground is likely to have been open from 1857 until at least 1863.
How is it significant?
The site is of local historical, social, and archaeological significance.
Why is it significant?
The site is of historical significance for its association with the Campbell’s Reef Rush and early ‘pioneers’ in the area, and practices of human burial and commemoration. The site is also of historical significance as part of the development of the Ararat rush. The site is of archaeological significance for its potential to contain human remains associated with a small regional goldfield.

The site exists. A google search finds a listing on Monuments Australia (https://monumentaustralia.org.au/themes/landscape/settlement/display/105901-pioneers-of-moyston/photo/2). Campbells Rush refers to finding gold in 1859 and the subsequent gold rush in the Moyston area.FORMER CAMPBELL'S RUSH BURIAL GROUND - Interpretation of Site
Not sure. Site appears well maintained so someone is looking after it.

FORMER CAMPBELL'S RUSH BURIAL GROUND - Heritage Inventory Description
The site is a small historic marker comprising a bronze (?) plaque mounted on a large rock (55 cm tall, 95 cm wide, 45 cm deep). The marker reads "This site is dedicated to the Pioneers of Moyston. It is believed that this is the burial ground of some of those who died during "Campbell's Rush"". The site is adjacent to the Moyston Avenue of Honour and is located 15 m from the edge of the road and about 8 m back from the boundary line. There is no fence present.
