DENICULL CREEK QUARRY SITE - History
On the 16 of February 1881, J Parsons became the sole proprietor of SPI 12A~9/PP2304 (see parish map attached). The property appears to have been used as a quarry with supporting amenities for operation, however, was clearly abandoned many years ago. The historical aerial from 1947 shows little evidence of the infrastructure at the site in built or remnant form. The site appears to be used for farming operations and has for some time. It is also worth noting that the adjoining lot to lot 12, 1H and other titles nearby were owned by William LC Harricks, who shares a surname with the current owner of the subject site and likely indicates extensive familiar ownership in this area from the late 19th century. There is no information within the historical record to explain the operation, scope or ownership of the quarry during its production phase.DENICULL CREEK QUARRY SITE - Interpretation of Site
On the 16 of February 1881, J Parsons became the sole proprietor of SPI 12A~9PP2304. The site has clear evidence of use as a stone quarry with supporting infrastructure such as a well, boiler and structural remnants in place. There is some evidence of a dirt road moving towards the historic remnants. There are no historical records to explain the scope, ownership or period that the quarry was in operation however it is inferred to have been abandoned many years ago due to the lack of structures on site in the 1947 aerial imagery. The land appears to have been incorporated into a larger land holding and used for farming for many years. The west of the site appears to be used as a floodplain. The SPI where the site is currently located is used as farming land with very sparse mature vegetation. Land use, including agricultural grazing may have impacted historical archaeological deposits, if any.
