Statement of Significance
B listed - Regional significance
STATEMENT OF SIGNIFICANCE
The Barrabool sandstone building in Heal Street, Ceres was most probably constructedin the mid 1850s as a semi-detached pair of colonial Georgian style cottages.
These cottages were erected for George Cox, a leading Episcopalean and a member of the Total Abstinence Society. They are of distinctly vernacular or pattern book origin and survive to illustrate the character of buildings I the once thriving Ceres Village, a centre in the Barrabool Hills for farming and citicultural pursuits. The original cottages now merge to form one dwelling.
