Statement of Significance
C LISTED - LOCAL SIGNIFICANCE
The house at 89 Shackleton Street is aesthetically significant at a LOCAL level. Although slightly altered by the introduction of aluminium wall cladding, the house still demonstrates original design qualities of the interwar Californian Bungalow style. These qualities include the rear major traversing gable with two perpendicular gables that project towards the street frontage. Other intact qualities include the brick chimney, lapped galvanised corrugated iron roof cladding, wide eaves, timber framed double hung windows arranged as a horizontal bank of three under the verandah and as a flat roofed projecting bay, verandah gable with round concrete Doric columns and rendered brick piers with concrete cappings, and the decorative gable infill (brackets and vertical joinery).
Overall the house at 89 Shackleton Street is of LOCAL significance.

"Radstock" - Physical Description 1
DESCRIPTION
This site at 89 Shackleton Street has typical front and side setbacks, with a driveway along the side. These setbacks are shown on the 1984 GWST Plan of Drainage. The front is bound by a fence with a rendered brick plinth and piers having concrete cappings, and a chain decoration, all approximately 1300mm high.
The asymmetrical, single storey, interwar Californian Bungalow house is characterised by a rear major traversing gable with two gables that project towards the street frontage. These roof forms are clad in lapped galvanised corrugated iron. Wide overhangs are a feature of the eaves. There is a brick chimney. The early timber framed double hung windows are arranged as a horizontal bank of three under the verandah and as a flat roofed projecting bay under the secondary gable.
A feature of the design is the verandah gable. It is supported by early, round concrete Doric columns which in turn are supported by rendered brick piers with concrete cappings.
Early decorative features of the design include the gable infill (brackets and vertical joinery).
The original timber weatherboard wall construction has been covered in introduced aluminium cladding.
