POINT NEPEAN LIMESTONE QUARRY - History
Lime quarrying for lime burning and the quarrying of sandstone blocks for building was a significant industry in the area from late 1830s/early 1840s. In 1852, 6 leases were held on land set aside for the Point Nepean Quarrantine Station and at least 2 lime kilns were in operation. It is likely that local sandstone and lime were used to construct the buildings of the Quarrantine Station.POINT NEPEAN LIMESTONE QUARRY - Interpretation of Site
