REVISED STATEMENT OF SIGNIFICANCE, CONTEXT, 2010
What is significant?
The c1870 State school (1003), the c1877 extensions and the c1915 remodelling, and later extensions from the life of the school's operation, and the surrounding site to the title boundaries.
How is it significant?
The school is historically, socially and aesthetically significant to the Shire of Nillumbik.
Why is it significant?
The school is historically and socially significant for its age and its enduring links with public education for the local community (Criteria A & G). The school is aesthetically and historically significant as part of a precinct of older buildings in the centre of Diamond Creek- the precinct includes St Johns Church (HO 132) and some of the older commercial buildings between the two (Criteria A & E). The school is historically and aesthetically significant as one of the few examples of a well preserved 19th century timber school house in the Shire (Criteria B, D & E).

Diamond Creek State School SSl003 - Physical Description 1
This weatherboarded school'is sited at the Clyde Street corner on the side of a steep hill overlooking the town. On the opposite hill is another civic group containing the churches of Diamond Creek. The original school building is identifiable with its 1915 classroom sections also evident but the verandah has been filled-in and minor additions made. Other classrooms have been added to the site. The recent Sutherland memorial playground and shelter adjoins the school site.
