Pelton Wheel Generating Plant - Physical Description 1
Description: The plant consists of a generator from an old Nash car and a Pelton wheel, both mounted on what seems to be the original wooden mounting beam. The generator was driven by the Pelton wheel using the chain and sprockets from an ordinary bicycle, having a speed reduction of about 2.7 to 1. The brass buckets are bolted to a central disc to form a Pelton wheel 11 1/2 inches in diameter tip-to-tip.
Function: The plant converted available water energy into electrical energy for domestic lighting in an area remote form a reticulated power supply.
