Statement of Significance
An attractive limestone cottage built by 1877 for Margaret McGrath (1834-1918 ), nee Sullivan, a member of two of Portsea's most prominent pioneer families. It was probably built and designed by the local builder John Farnsworth and its fine features include a verandah with carved posts, ornate architraves and skirting boards and hand-etched coloured glass panels. It is one of the few remaining small, but well-built, limestone cottages which have given the Mornington Peninsula its charm.

I would like to know how this significant heritage cottage was allowed to be demolished in 1993? It once belonged to my family who were first settlers in Portsea. There is nothing but another unused tennis court there now. A deliberate destruction of our heritage for no apparent reason. In my eyes it is a crime. Lynn Thorpe (nee McGrath)
