Statement of Significance
One of the few surviving solid brick residences dating from about 1865 in Echuca. The house is notable for its double gable roof which retains the original hand cut wooden shingles under iron sheeting and original windows and doors. The interior retains significant remnants of its original features including some skirtings, fireplace, architraves and door fittings, and it has a well-built cellar.
The site and building are significant for their association with many of Echuca's well-known identities; Thomas Mitchell (gentleman, carrier and entrepreneur); Hugh Gibson (livery stable and shop owner); and a tenant, Franklin (the local tannery owner) among others.
Classified: 16/11/1989
