Statement of Significance
A substantial brick convent of regional architectural and historic significance. Built in 1891-92 to the design of Edgar J Henderson, the former Brigidine Convent has a two storeyed verandah with unusually and notable detailed timber fretwork. The buiding is enriched by the incorporation of Christian architectural motifs in its design. The former convent is historically significant in demonstrating the presence of the Brigidine Convent in Rochester since the early 1890s and for its pivotal role in the community from that time.
