Statement of Significance
The south wing of the main building was constructed in 1857-8 with the central portion being added in 1860-61 and the northern wing in 1867-68. The design has been attributed to architect Lloyd Tayler.
The historic main block of the hospital is a two storey brick building with slate covered hipped roof. The central block is symmetrically flanked by single storey wings, each with hipped roofs covered with slate. The walls of the southern wing are of local stone with the central block and north wing of solid brick.
Later additions have severly eroded the integrity of the historic buildings.
The hospital has local historical significance for its continuous service to the local community since 1858.
