Statement of Significance
This small 1936 brick butter factory stands on the site of two previous dairy industry buildings, the first a cheese factory, the second another butter factory. Architecturally the building is unique among butter factories with its square shape topped by a pagoda like roof with small ridge line ventilation matched with a similar shaped verandah. Historically the factory is typical of many small dairy industries begun in northern Victoria in the late 1800s although unusual in that it was planned to manufacture both butter and cheese. The factory used the technology of the day without ever being at the forefront of the industrial advances but socially the factory was the pivot point for the small township and the surrounding areas. The factory is the only marker of a now diminished town.
