Statement of Significance
Built about 1853. The first owner was William Henry Bonsey, who first came to Australia with his family in 1852. He was a qualified lawyer, who became the Police Magistrate for the district from 1853-1868. Two of his sons continued on at the house after their father returned to England. The brothers occupied the house from 1868-1874 when the property ws sold to Colonel Couran. He was Sergeant-at-arms in the Victorian parliament and had also been aide-de-camp to Governor Latrobe. He resided at Barrabool House from 1874-1893.
The house has been considerably altered internally and the original verandah is also missing.
