Statement of Significance
The Springhurst and District Dairy Company is located in one of the first settlements in Victoria and was part of the general move towards local cooperatives so common in 1892. The current factory, built in 1912, demonstrates the level of community faith in the continuance of the butter industry in the district. Although never at the forefront of technological change Springhurst maintained its market position and was one of the last factories to cease processing in the region. Its prominent position, level of intactness and clear statement of its former role make this building a valuable reminder of the importance of dairying in northeastern Victoria.
