Statement of Significance
Kolor Woolshed at Teringa, formerly part of J J Twomey's Kolor of Purdeet pastoral lease, and now annexed from the original property through closer subdivision, was erected c 1868. Built of local squared coursed basalt, the plan is arranged as a hexagonal central shearing board with central oculus and radiating rectangular plan wings of gable roof form.
Kolor Woolshed was erected at the height of the late 1860s wool boom in western Victoria. The large basalt shed is distinguished from the proliferation of similar structures by the unusual plan centred in the hexagonal shearing board. The central roof light over this area is also a noteworthy feature. The interior timber framework and joinery was prefabricated and meticulously detailed and may be attributed to Joseph Reed, architect for the nearby homestead of 1868.
Kolor Woolshed still functions as originally constructed with only minor alterations and replacement of the original roofing iron being undertaken in 1951.
