Statement of Significance
The first section of the building which was designed by J H W Pettit for the then Sale Borough Council was built by L Jensen and completed in 1864. An extension, also designed by Pettit, was added in 1886 to the front of the building by Fidler Bros. and James.
This single storey rendered brick extension is symmetrical about the main entrance door which is below a central roof pediment, and the decorative paired pilasters and the four well proportioned windows all contri bute to the very attractive street facade.
The building is of great historic and social importance to the City of Sale because it was the orignial Borough Council Chambers and contains the original furniture.
