What is significant?
A single Araucaria columnaris located near the corner of Montague St and St Vincent Place North and the tennis courts (western side).

Why is it significant?
An outstanding specimen and the finest example of the species in Victoria. The narrow crown is very symmetrical and the foliage compact. It makes a major contribution to the gardens' landscape. This species is uncommon in cultivation with known trees being 5 in the Royal Botanic Gardens, 1 each at Eastern Park Geelong, Fitzroy Gardens and "Stonnington". The species is a native of New Caledonia and the South Pacific Islands.
