Statement of Significance
Contribution to the landscape.
A well-known and most attractive specimen growing outside the Post Office. Unfortunately a nearby tree of equal trunk dimensions is severely stressed, although both trees contribute to the landscape. It is recommended that appropriate action to improve the condition and vigour of the western specimen be undertaken. It should be ensured that service line clearance works be sympathetically undertaken and any soil excavation works (root damage) are avoided.
Severe storm damage necessitated the tree's removal in November 1986.
