SPRING CREEK PUDDLER SITE. - History
Heritage Inventory History of Site: This land was originally purchased by William Swan Urquhart (former Government Surveyor) on 5/2/1855. The Mining Surveyor's Report of January 1861 reported that, "An application has been put in for an acre of ground at the mouth of Victoria Gully, part being old worked ground, and the other part now surfacing at the side of the gully; the applicant's purpose putting up a horse puddling machine to wash the soil."Heritage Inventory Description
SPRING CREEK PUDDLER SITE. - Heritage Inventory Description
Remains of a possible puddler - doughnut shaped depression, approximately 10 metres in diameter, with a wooden post in the centre. Also there are two small pits in the floodplain to the north of the puddler. Located approximately 10 metres to the east of the creek.
Heritage Inventory Significance: Moderate archaeological and moderate regional historical significance.
