CHARCOAL BURNER'S GULLY, TARADALE. - History
Heritage Inventory History of Site: The Mining Surveyor's Report of September 1860 stated that a patch of auriferous quartz was discovered in the gully. In November 1860 there were about 50 men working at this site. In February it was reported that a site for a horse powered puddling machine had been taken up with an acre of ground that had been previously worked by tub and cradle. In April 1861 it was reported that a puddling machine had been set to work in Charcoal - burner's Gully.Heritage Inventory Description
CHARCOAL BURNER'S GULLY, TARADALE. - Heritage Inventory Description
An area of shallow surface workings and collapsed tunnels, mainly along the north bank of Kangaroo Creek. There is a possible puddling machine site on the south bank close to the Fryerstown Road, approximately 100 metres west of Roderick Street./n
Heritage Inventory Significance: Moderate archaeological significance (6). There are likely to be artefacts and remains of mining activity from the 1860s preserved at this site. Moderate regional historical significance.
