ALSTERGREN'S SAWMILL - History
Heritage Inventory History of Site: Alstergren's Pty Ltd established this mill on Bell Creek in the 1940s. It connected with the Forest Commission section of the Thomson Valley Tramway via a steeply graded incline.Heritage Inventory Description
ALSTERGREN'S SAWMILL - Heritage Inventory Description
This is the most intact mill site in Thomson Valley. Features include; sawdust heap, several hut ruins (some still with furniture inside), the actual mill site with saw pit, engine foundation and chimney, bottle dumps, other artefacts including a near complete bogie, two saw blades, a boiler chimney, water tanks, combustion engine, 44 gallon drums, boilder parts, possible steam engine cylinder. Tramline consists of a raised earthen formation.
Heritage Inventory Significance: Regional/State. Although a post war mill, this may be of State significance due to the unusually intact nature of the site. It is of regional significance as an example of a post 1939 sawmilling operation.
