Statement of Significance
REVISED STATEMENT OF SIGNIFICANCE (with AHC criteria) 2001
APPLE ORCHARD & MONTEREY PINE TREE ROWS are significant to the Cottles Bridge locality:
- for its now uncommon expression of the many orchards which previously existed in the Shire, in the form of fruit trees sheltered from wind by rows of 'Pinus radiata' (CriterionA4, B2);
- they recall a time when orchards of this type contributed significantly to the livelihoods of many residents and the growth of the Shire during the late 19th and early 20th centuries ( Criterion A4).

Apple orchard & Monterey pine rows - Physical Description 1
ELTHAM STUDY DESCRIPTON:
The orchard is.largely surrounded by 'Pinus radiata' wind breaks, although some trees in the windbreak to the north appear to have died and left breaks in the line. The plan below schematically illustrates the layout of the property.
Unfortunately many of the production trees appear to be in a declining condition and may be near the end of their commercial life. .
