A very rare tree in cultivation in Victoria. Although the species is listed in many early nursery catalogues, this tree is the only known specimen. The tree's distinguishing features are its small cones 1.5-2 cm, small branchlets angular to one another, and aromatic foliage. The crown of this tree is very dense. The species may grow to 25 metres and only 5-6 metres on mountain slopes in California where it is found on only two sites near the Monterey Peninsula
