Heritage Inventory History of Site: Coal mining began in Kilcunda about 1869. In 1874 the shaft produced nearly 3000 tons which was transported by tramway to Point Griffiths, opposite Phillip Island.Heritage Inventory Description

Substantial heap of coal, approx. 80m long, 30m wide, 10m high some concrete machinery & building foundations; a few scattered iron artefacts; formation of railway siding.
