Homestead Complex, 6476 Ararat-St Arnaud Road, BEAZLEYS BRIDGE - Physical Description 1
The homestead complex off the Navarre Road, Beazley's Bridge, consists of a homestead dwelling and nearby outbuilding. These buildings are situated in a rural setting, with the some exotic trees located at the front of the dwelling. There is also a palm tree towards the rear, together with large eucalypts and open grassed areas.
The single storey, rendered mud brick, Victorian styled dwelling is characterised by a broad hipped roof form, together with a rear hipped roof that projects to the side. This rear roof form appears to represent a later addition and has horizontal timber weatherboard wall cladding. The roof forms are clad in galvanised corrugated iron. Narrow overhangs are features of the eaves, while the metal wall panelling under the eaves appear to have been introduced.
An early feature of the design is the encircling skillion verandah. It is also clad in galvanised corrugated steel and is supported by timber columns, with some steel columns introduced as replacements.
An early face brick chimney adorns the roofline, and is suffering considerable deterioration. There is a more recent c.1950s-60s cream brick chimney towards the rear.
Other early features of the design include the front timber framed doorway and the timber framed double hung windows.
The skillion verandah supported by cream brick piers and timber columns at the rear is a later addition.
The elevated single storey, Victorian vernacular styled outbuilding has a double gabled roof form clad in galvanised corrugated iron. The front of the building is clad in vertical timber boards and has an early opening with vertically boarded timber doors in poor condition. The front gable end is clad in horizontal timber weatherboards and galvanised corrugated iron. The rear gable is clad in galvanised corrugated iron also. Another feature of the rear gable is the ventilator.
