Sawmill sites are quite commo throughout the region, however this site potentially has intact subsurface artefact deposits based on findings in 1985. Overall low sig.
YELLAND 2 - Historical Significance
Another example of the sawmilling industry in the region. Further research may determine more information on the company and possible historic persons.
Heritage Inventory Description
YELLAND 2 - Heritage Inventory Description
Former timber mill site. The site is very overgrown. Sawdust heap 80x20m is situated some 30m n-e of the site. Trenches exist with some timbers still inplace. Boiler situated above site on tramway formation. Deep machinery pits partly silted up by domestic rubbish being dug up by animals above it. A small bottle (find 021) found in rubbish. Site is c.80x50m and operated in the 1920s.
