TIN MINE - History
Heritage Inventory History of Site: Although tin mining was conducted in this area from 1876, little is known of the history of this site. In 1950 it was reported that, "Tinmining in a desultory manner is carried on along the M'Crae Creek, the fossickers just about making ends meet."Source: Audas, J.W., "The Australian Bushland", Nth Melbourne, W.A. Hamer Pty Ltd, 1950, p. 361.TIN MINE - Interpretation of Site
Site was possibly once used for tin mining, either in the late 19th C or the mid 20th C. Land hjas since regenerated and is protected bush land.
TIN MINE - Archaeological Significance
This site potentially has local/regional significance however it is low based on the limited features of the site, lack of historical knowledge ofthe site and the fact that mine shafts are not uncommon in the region. The filled sites provide potential for subsurface archaeological deposits.
