MARYSVILLE TIMBER AND SEASONING COMPANY MILLS AND TRAMWAYS - History
Heritage Inventory History of Site: The Marysville Timber and Seasoning Company was formed in 1930 to extract and mill a large area of mountain ash and messmate situated in the Wilks Creek basin and the surrounding ridges. No 1 mill, site(b), was built in 1930 and the No 2 mill, site (g), in 1934. Lowering gears were installed on Mt Edgar and Mt Strickland to lower the logs from the ridges, and a 3' gauge tramline , operated by a 'Days' tractor extended towards the Paradise Plains area. The sawn timber from the mill was transported to a gantry located on the Narbethong/Marysville Road until the 1939 fires. After the fires the outlet tramway was closed, but the logging lines and the inclines were rebuilt. No 1 mill was closed prior to 1950, but No 2 continued to operate until the mid 1960s, using a tramway and incline built in a south west direction from the mill.Heritage Inventory Description
