BUXTON SAWMILLING CO. MILL AND TRAMWAY - History
Heritage Inventory History of Site: The mill was shifted to this location, from near Buxton, in 1938. Two log lines were built to serve the mil. Sawn timber was transferred several hundred metres via an outlet tramway to a loading gantry where it was loaded on to motor truck. The area was cut out by 1951 and the mill was closed.Heritage Inventory Description
BUXTON SAWMILLING CO. MILL AND TRAMWAY - Heritage Inventory Description
Mill site - boiler remains and steam engine crankshaft. Dugout - very well preserved wooden rail tramway. Loading gantry - well preserved and still standing. Wooden bridge for motor trucks.
Heritage Inventory Significance: Regional. The outlet tramway and the gantry are especially well preserved.
