MOE-WALHALLA RAILWAY - History
Heritage Inventory History of Site: The narrow gauge Moe-Walhalla railway opened in 1910, by which time Walhalla's gold mines were in decline. Johnson notes that it was a narrow gauge line requiring great engineering expertise to align the route through rugged country. The opening of the line probably hastened the decline of the town, as many Walhalla houses were dismantled 7 sent by rail down to the growing Latrobe Valley towns (Johnstone 1991;31)Heritage Inventory Description
