Former Anglican Vicarage, 60 Newall Street, MARNOO - Physical Description 1
The Former Anglican Vicarage, 60 Newall Street, Marnoo, has visual connections with other predominantly single storey, horizontal weatherboard residential buildings with pitched galvanised corrugated iron roofs. This building is generally in accord with the form, construction and setbacks of the significant places visually connected to it. It is set on averaged sized allotment for the area with a sizeable front setback and narrow side setbacks (and a gravelled driveway along one side). There is a rudimentary front garden that consists of a grassed area, some perimeter plantings and evidence of a previous substantial creeper at the front verandah.
The asymmetrical, single storey, strapped cement sheet, interwar Bungalow styled house is characterised by a gambrel roof form that traverses the site, together with an unusual minor jerkin head roof form and broken back skillion verandah that project towards the street frontage. These roof forms are clad in lapped overpainted galvanised corrugated iron. A large, elongated and unpainted brick chimney with a soldier course capping adorns the roofline at the side. Wide overhangs with exposed timber rafters are features of the eaves.
Other early features of the design include the single and paired timber framed double hung windows, with 2 paned upper sashes, timber framed doorway with a sidelight, and the timber framed gable ventilators.
The paired square timber verandah columns between which are simple timber cross motifs and details in the upper reaches appear to have been introduced but are appropriate.
The rear skillion addition at the side, and the skillion carport near the front on the other side have been introduced.
