BISMARK MINE & MACHINERY SITE - History
Heritage Inventory History of Site: By 1880 the mines on the Morning Star Creek were thought to have been worked out and attention was turned to the Bismark and the Hit or Miss workings on the north side of Concord Creek. In 1871 the Bismark Company had started driving an adit towards the reefs worked on the Morning Star Creek side of the ridge, and finally succeeded in reaching rich stone. The Company erected their own 15 head battery on Concord Creek and continued to mine the reef down to creek level by driving a series of adits. They obtained approximately 11 500 ounces of gold from 7 500 tons of stone, making them the most successful mine in the area.Source: Milner (October 1989) TR 89/39Heritage Inventory Description
