MPP25 - BARAMBOGIE 1 - History
Originally recorded as part of the Chiltern Mt Pilot Heritage Study for Department of Conservation and Natural Resources; unpublished (G, Nelson and N. Hall 1993).
The site is a wall located in thick bushland and was described as having a very 'defensive' feel about this place. It was interpreted as a "bushrangers' hideout" where a dry stone wall had been constructed. This has not been substantiated.
Alternatively, it is possible that it is associated with mining operations as dry stone walls are common, both for industrial structures and also for domestic uses.
A search of the Parish and historical maps, as well as local histories, has not revealed any further history regarding this particular historical place. However, given the ephemeral nature of both bushrangers' camps and mining camps, this is hardly surprising.Heritage Inventory Description
