Statement of Significance
The Swanwater West Cemetery, Lagoon Road, Swanwater West, has significance as an important place of commemoration and as a significant cultural landscape to the local area. Characterised by a rural grassed setting and a background of densely planted eucalypts and other trees, the cemetery features rows of early graves and grave surrounds which date from either 1877 or earlier.
The Swanwater West Cemetery is historically and aesthetically significant at a LOCAL level. The Cemetery is associated with the development of the settlement of the Swanwater West district in the second half of the 19th century, and possibly in 1877. The Cemetery demonstrates important visual qualities. These qualities include the rural setting with an open grassed area of cemetery ground with a background of densely planted eucalypts and other trees, and numerous surviving graves arranged in rows.
The Swanwater West Cemetery is socially significant at a LOCAL level. It is recognised and valued by the Swanwater West community and the surrounding district for cultural, spiritual and commemorative reasons.
Overall, the Swanwater West Cemetery is of LOCAL significance.

Swanwater West Cemetery, Lagoon Road, SWANWATER WEST - Physical Conditions
The Swanwater West Cemetery, Lagoon Road, Swanwater West, has a rural setting. At the entrance is a steel and wire vehicular gate and the cemetery is bound by a timber post and wire fence.
The open, grassed cemetery contains several graves with headstones and grave surrounds. Most of the headstones appear to be constructed of granite or marble. The graves are arranged in rows with grassed paths between. The rear portion of the cemetery is characterised by dense plantings of eucalypts and other trees.
